In bi-directional power transfer, energy stored in the battery of an EV can be exported to energise various loads in addition to powering the EV itself. An example of this is V2G where owners can charge their electric vehicles and then sell excess power to the grid. The Highbury DC Bi-directional Charger is being developed to meet the standards of V2G charging. A low-powered DC charger in the absence of an OBC opens up possibilities for an optimised and cost effective charging chain.
